August 12th—here's where I'm taking my kids this week

August is one of my favorite months. There’s something in the air this time of year - back to school energy, the last sips of summer. I always feel reset and reenergized for the second half of the year. Of course, in San Francisco, fall is really just code for summer finally starting. This week, I’m keeping things light, easy, and a little bit magical. Here’s where I’m taking the kids:

📍1231 McKay Ave, Alameda
Fish Feeding Viewing - Crab Cove Visitor Center
Wednesday 8/13 Get up close with Bay creatures and watch Crab Cove’s crabs, flounder, perch, and pipefish enjoy their snack time. (3pm - 3:30pm)
*no registration, drop in.

Hello! Lucky Music & Story Hour - Tantrum SF
Wednesday 8/13 A lively, interactive, singalong and story time for ages 0-5 at one of the cutest kids shops. (11am - 12pm)
$10 per child, no RSVP needed

 📍 106 E Main Street, Los Gatos
Popsicle Stick Frames – NUMU Los Gatos
Thursday 8/14 Kids will decorate and take home their very own creative frame made out of popsicle sticks! Included with museum admission. (10am - 4pm)

Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party – Lawrence Hall of Science
Thursday 8/14 Peer through telescopes, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa under the night sky. Bring a blanket for this magical cosmic experience. (8pm - 11pm)

Caterpillar Puppets - Yerba Buena Gardens
Friday 8/15 Silly and sweet puppet shows by Joe Leon, outdoors at the Children’s Garden. (shows at 11am & 12pm)
*free outdoor event

Foster City Summer Days - Leo Ryan Park
Friday - Sunday 8/15 - 8/17 Three days of waterfront fun featuring live music, food trucks, a beer garden, artisan vendors, carnival rides, and family activities including a rubber ducky scavenger hunt! (times vary each day)
*free admission, ride tickets available for purchase

 📍 Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Dino Days – California Academy of Sciences
8/13 - 8/19 Life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, fossil digs, and themed puppet shows. (park hours, offered daily)
